Dr. Zhouwen “David” Tang was born in China but raised in the Memorial area of Houston.  After graduating from Memorial High School, he received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University and his M.D. from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.  He returned to Houston to do his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. Following the completion of his Gastroenterology fellowship, Dr. Tang returned to UT Southwestern to complete additional training in advanced endoscopic procedures.

Dr. Tang’s expertise in advanced endoscopic therapies, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), ablation of premalignant lesions, and other advanced multimodal endoscopic procedures.

While advanced endoscopic procedures center around disorders of the pancreas, bile duct, and gastrointestinal cancers, Dr. Tang recognizes the importance in providing a medical home for patients with chronic liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer screening, and other digestive disorders.

Dr. Tang has contributed to clinical research to advance the art and practice of gastroenterology. He also maintains a special interest in implementation of high value and cost effective care and has published on the subject in leading medical journals.

Dr. Tang maintains active membership in the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), and American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).

When not taking care of patients, Dr. Tang can be found enjoying his hobbies and learning new ones, including computer programming, aviation, photography, and motorsports. He is proud to come home again to provide compassionate and expert care to friends and neighbors.
